Several people have recently mentioned that they like our stories about language problems, so today I'm starting a sub-section of our blog titled Lost in Translation. The ones I've already posted I'll skip for now...
Lost in Translation #1 "She's really good. She teaches inside bottles" -Me, telling Flavia that we're thinking of taking some language classes from a professor some friends of ours knows here in Asunción. She's apparently quite good, she's taught lots of people like ambassadors. I was trying to get this point across to Flavia, but I wasn't sure about the word for ambassadors, so I took a stab at it, and this is what I ended up saying instead...
Lost in Translation #2 "My Heart is Beats for You" -T-shirt worn by someone at a district church function. Only a slight grammatical error, but Sarah thought it said "My heart is beets for you" which would have been even better!
