It´s monday morning in Asuncion, the group has left for the airport (well 80% of them have) and things are getting back to normal around here. We are looking forward to having some time tonight to post pictures, because we have a LOT we´ve taken over the past week.
By way of news, we have one exciting thing to share, which I´m sure we´ll be sharing more about as it unfolds. A few weeks ago we drove out the countryside, a town called Nueva Asuncion, also known in Guarani as Tirumandy, to meet a family who was interested in having a Nazarene church in their area. Well, we went back yesterday with the Mavericks team and another pastor and his family to have a kind of kick-off celebration. The plan right now is that each sunday morning sarah and I will ride two buses out to this community and help the other pastor and the family develop a new Nazarene Church in the area. To start off we will be meeting at their house, having relatively informal services in their yard, and getting to know the neighborhood.
It´s exciting for us for a few reasons. We´ve been wanting to be more involved in local church development here, so this will be a good chance for that. As Larry Webb, the leader of the Mavericks and a retired career missionary, pointed out to us, Nueva Asuncion is a kind of a missionary dream job; lots of people in a close community, relitively unreached but open to the gospel. We look at it a little differently, being only short-term ("pretend" as I like to say) missionaries, we´re excited to help Sergio and Francesca in the begining stages of their Church, and hopefully we´ll be able to do some things right.
We have some time today, and tonight we don´t have any plans at all, so I think we will be able to do pictures for sure. Right now I´m going to run some errands and then we´ll be doing some library work this afternoon. Anyway, thanks for reading! check back later for pictures!!
peace
